تمّ الإعلان عن ثني عشرة فئة من فئات جوائز الأوسكار عن قوائمها المختصرة، وذلك في بيان صحفي صدر عن أكاديمية فنون وعلوم الصور المتحركة، وذلك في فئات أفضل فيلم رسوم متحرّكة قصير، أفضل اختيار ممثّلين، أفضل تصوير سينمائيّ، أفضل فيلم وثائقيّ طويل، أفضل فيلم وثائقيّ قصير، أفضل فيلم روائيّ دولي طويلّ، أفضل فيلم قصير روائي، أفضل مكياج وتصفيف شعر، أفضل موسيقى تصويرية أصلية، أفضل أغنية أصلية، أفضل مؤثرات صوتية وبصرية.
أفلام الرسوم المتحركة القصيرة
سيتأهل خمسة عشر فيلمًا في فئة أفلام الرسوم المتحركة القصيرة لجوائز الأوسكار الثامنة والتسعين. وقد تأهل مئة وثلاثة عشر فيلمًا لهذه الفئة. دُعي أعضاء الأكاديمية من فرع الرسوم المتحركة وفرع الأفلام القصيرة للمشاركة في الجولة التمهيدية للتصويت، وكان عليهم استيفاء الحد الأدنى من متطلبات المشاهدة للتأهل للتصويت في هذه الفئة. في جولة الترشيحات، دُعي أعضاء الأكاديمية من جميع الفروع للمشاركة، ويجب عليهم مشاهدة جميع الأفلام الخمسة عشر المرشحة للتصويت. الأفلام، مرتبة أبجديًا حسب العنوان، هي:
